ALP Supports Uranium Mining
Kevin Rudd

Kevin Rudd back flips on uranium mining to
offer up our nations soil for the proliferation of uranium
for export.
The current ‘No
new mines policy’ will be overturned by Labour
if reelected. The exports will be sold on the pretext that
no uranium
can be utilised for nuclear
weapons. Why do we make a request to not utilise the
uranium in nuclear
weaponry when Australia is not a nation that
could have any impact in enforcing such a rule.
Growing up in the 70s as kids
our fears were of nuclear
holocaust but now our fears are changing to
the environmental impact we are having on the planet.
Why do we mine, sell and use this product that can destroy
us so easily. We cannot control the uses other nations have
for the product we sell them. Even if they utilize the uranium
to produce electricity does this make the waste safe? No.
We should be avoiding uranium
altogether.
The State Governments will
be given the power to decide if they will open new uranium
mines. As money seems to be Labours motivation
for this policy change, and Labour is governing in all the
States, how long will it take for uranium mines to increase
into double digits?
South Australian Premier Mike
Rann has been the main culprit in pushing to lift the ban
on new nuclear mines. The BHP Billiton Olympic
Dam copper-uranium mine in SA holds approximately
one third of the world’s uranium reserves. Therefore
the motivator for SA premier Mike Rann is, once again, money.
Labor frontbencher Anthony
Albanese moved his own amendments to maintain the ban, saying
nuclear power was not the solution to climate change. He seems
to be the only member in the ALP that can see sense.
Isn’t the ALP supposed
to support the Aussie Battler? Or are they now just a greed
motivated money machine who will destroy the environment to
obtain the mighty dollar?
